Arts & Crafts for Teens & Adults

Nurture your natural artistic ability or push your limits to learn a new skill and talent.  WCPR offers a number of arts and crafts classes led by an incredible team of instructors.  If you only enjoy the occasional art experience due to an already filled personal calendar, register to attend one-time, open workshops.  If you can’t find time during the week then check out our array of weekend workshops.  Or, maybe you have time and want to commit to an extended program that offers weekly art classes to advance your skill on a weekly basis.  Whatever your schedule, we have just the right program to meet your needs through a variety of art mediums and techniques. We also offer a variety of other programs which may be found in other areas of the website.  Please see Health & Wellness, Music Classes, and Recreation Classes for more programs.

Interested in acrylic painting? No matter your experience level, you will enjoy exploring tips and techniques with a group of like-minded art enthusiasts. If the weather is nice we will pack up our portable easels and paint on the scenic grounds of the Franklin Rec Complex (along the Harpeth River). On rainy/windy days we will set up a still life indoors to practice rendering forms, values, tones, and shadows using acrylic paints. You will be hosted by WCPR instructor and painting enthusiast Joan Wilkes -- who encourages everyone to pick up a paintbrush and enjoy recreating the beauty that is all around. (Watercolor, chalk, and charcoal artists welcome!) Pre-registration is required and enrollment is limited.

Dress for the outdoors, bring water if you like, and be prepared to stand and walk through uneven ground. If you prefer your own supplies, bring them -- basic acrylic paints, brushes, paper, and easels will be provided.

Now more than ever we all can benefit from learning how to work out thoughts and feelings -- Artist Suzanne Beaumar will show the way in this on-going, 2-hour, once-a-week art journaling class! Enjoy art journaling as a way to try an idea before committing it to a canvas. Learn to use a variety of mediums and techniques as you journal with water-reactive tools that turn your thoughts into background color; see how to reverse write in a big, bold chunky style that showcases a funny thought or fun memory; consider using positive support words to add interest and texture to a page... all of these mindfulness techniques help to calm and relax a racing mind when living in uncertain and stressful times. (Projects will vary from image.) Limited enrollment available due to social distancing.
*An additional supply fee of $5 (cash or check payable to instructor) is due at the beginning of each class, plus a one-time $20 fee for a base journal hand-made by instructor Suzanne Beaumar.  Join anytime -- registration fee will be pro-rated based on number of classes remaining in the month.
