Chaffin's Barn's "Frankly, My Dear"
We begin our motor coach trip to Chaffin's Barn Dinner Theatre, located in Nashville, TN with a performance of "Frankly, My Dear." It is 1939 and David O. Selznick has already begun filming "Gone with the Wind," but needs a new script. There is only one writer up to the task: the legendary Ben Hecht. The only problem, Hecht has never read the book, and they only have one week to write! So, Selznick locks himself, Hecht, and the director Victor Flemming (on a short hiatus from "The Wizard of Oz") in his office to get the job done. If laughter feeds the soul, the antics which produce one of the classic movies of all time will ensure you'll "never go hungry again!" Remember to bring a sack lunch with you; coffee and soft drinks are on the house!

Cheekwood and The Cheesecake Factory
Our comfortable bus will be taking us to Nashville to visit Cheekwood. The history and origin of Cheekwood are intimately interwoven with the growth of Nashville, the Maxwell House coffee brand, and the Cheeks, one of the city's early entrepreneurial families. Christopher T. Cheek moved to Nashville in the 1880's and founded a wholesale grocery business. His son, Leslie Cheek joined him as a partner. During these same years, the elder Cheeks cousin, Joel Cheek, developed a superior blend of coffee that was marketed through the best hotel in Nashville, the Maxwell House. His extended family, including Leslie and Mabel Cheek, were investors. In 1928, Postum (now General Foods) purchased Maxwell House's parent company, Cheek-Neal Coffee, for more than $40 million. We their income secured by the proceeds from the sale, the Cheeks bought 100 acres of what was then woodland in West Nashville for a country estate. Today, Cheekwood is a 55 acre botanical garden and art museum located on the historic Cheek estate. On our visit, we will enjoy the "insider's tour," which gives us a history of the mansion and the Cheek family, while viewing some of the collections built by renowned architect and landscape architect Bryant Fleming. After our tour, we will enjoy lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. Offering a vast variety of lunch specials including soups, salad, fish, seafood, pasta, pizza, and delicious desserts, the Cheesecake Factory is sure to have something for everyone! Don't miss great trip!

The historic Sam Davis Home was built around 1810, and renovated in the 1850's by the Davis family. It is characteristic of a southern upper middle-class family of those times. The home contains over 100 original family pieces, and the floors, doors and most of the woodwork are original to the 1850 house. The home sits on a 160 acre farm where cotton is still grown today.
